Polypropylene Cone
An extremely strong cone material that can take a serious beating.
4-ohm Voice Coil
A 4-ohm voice coil is a virtual guarantee of compatability between your amps, speakers, and subwoofers. For virtually all the single voice coil speakers that Sony makes, a 4-ohm voice coil is employed. Most Sony amps are rated as 2-ohm stable as well. So with 4-ohm voice coils, two speakers can be wired together yielding a 2 ohm load, increasing power and output.
Gold-Plated Binding Posts
The best electrical conductor known to man is gold. Gold transfers electricity with the lowest resistance (at room temperature) of all known materials. In those systems where there must be no compromise, gold-plated connections are used to maintain the integrity of the audio signal.
Gold also is one of the few high-conductivity metals that resists corrosion, even under adverse environmental conditions, like those found inside a car or boat. For these reasons, Sony chooses to plate their high end speaker connectors with precious gold. This ensures a long-lasting and low impedance connection.
